Keyword Density
Keyword Density refers to the percentage of keywords versus the total text on the page. An effortless way to improve your site’s ranking within a search engine result is to work on the keyword density of the page.
Among the many millions of searches that take place on Google every day, some of them will be for the word or phrase that relates to the product or service your website provides. Keyword density is the ratio of the word that is being searched for against the total number of words appearing on that landing page.
A fairly easy way to determine keyword density would be to divide the total number of words by the amount of times the keyword is used. If for example the keyword "attorney" appears 10 times in the copy of 100 words, the keyword density would be determined as 10%. This formula is not as easy for keyword phrases. Keyword phrase can be a bit more problematic because instead of counting the phrase as one, it is counted by individual words. Therefore, the keyword phrase "malpractice attorney" could render a density of 20% rather than 10%.
SEO keyword density can be used as a factor in determining whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase. Google prefers keyword heavy text, but the trick is not too much or too little. Somewhere between 2-5% seems to be about right for most keywords / keyphrases.
