Links services and link building, what are the things to watch out for?
Question: -
Q: If I used a link service to get link backs in the past, will thoses links hurt me? And do I need to do anything about or with them?
Answer: -
Google does not like paid or manipulative link services. It is especially upset about nefarious link-building schemes that seek to influence the search engine process. That said, there are many link building schemes and services that are not so far out of line that they will unduly hurt your website's reputation.
I would not recommend paying for links, nor would I participate in any strange link building schemes. Most people feel, however, that it is not who links to you that can hurt you. It is who you link to. (This is the reverse of the way regular link building works). So you might de-link any links you have to the link farm or less than reputable link-building service. Basically, Google doesn't want you to recommend them to anyone else.
In addition, extreme spikes in link activity can harm your site. Meaning, if a lot of links are added quickly that can also trigger some strange issues in terms of the index. In general, I believe in 'white hat seo' link building: getting links from news sites, sites in your community, etc., logical sites that have a logical reason to link to you.
To see what is indexed in Google on your site use the site command: site:yoursite.com in the Google search engine.
Hope this helps!
