How do social media sites affect links and link building?

Question: -
Q: If my site doesn't have a rank, will that change as I add links and begin to grow and work with keywords? Will social media posts and links effect your rating?

Answer: -
First, in terms of your website's PageRank - yes. As you get links, over time, your PageRank will improve. Link-building takes time but every link is worth its weight in gold. Gold is precious and difficult to get, and so are links.

Second, in terms of social media and links, Google definitely rewards websites that have lots of links from social media websites. It isn't exactly clear how it all works, however. Many SEO experts theorize that social bookmarking sites in particular (e.g., Delicious or Stumbleupon) are uniquely interesting to Google. As people in the 'community' bookmark a website, then this tells Google both the category of interest (tags) and the popularity (quantity and review stars).

In addition, Bing and Google are now indexing Twitter, so many people feel that Twitter links - while they are ephemeral are nonetheless valuable. I wouldn't participate in social media just for links but I would definitely encourage other folks in Facebook, Twitter, Delicios, etc., to use and repost my website address. It will certainly be one (growing) facet of link building!

Hope this helps!
