What is link bait, and how does it help you?
Question: -
Q: Say you get a lot of links to a "link bait" page, such as a free tool. Does this help your search position for that page only or for your entire site?
Answer: -
"Link bait" is anything useful, controversial, or just plain contagious that you can put on your website for other people to link to. I often use the example of a 'Reverse Mortage Calculator.' Lots of people want to know how much equity is in their homes, and if they are seniors, how much they can get out via a 'Reverse Mortgage.' Sites on the Internet have thus created link bait / mortgage caculators. You can do this in many industries. Controversial articles are also good link bait.
Your question then asks does this help only that page, or your whole site. Well, we don't really know for certain how Google processes links as votes. We can assume it definitely helps the page directly linked the most, but it also helps your entire website. A site having a lot of links to its home page and its deep pages is going to beat out other less linked-to sites.
That said, you might strategize and put your link bait on your home page or nearby - if that is where you want to drive traffic!
Hope this helps!
