Where should I put my blog? What is the best location for a blog in terms of SEO?

While I cannot be completely certain, it seems the Google is intelligent enough to 'figure out' that something located in the /blog directory is your 'blog' and thereby give it priority in terms of indexing. In addition, if you frequently blog and post links to your blog from your home page, that is another queue to Google to index this content.
So my basic recommendation is to always have a a 'news' directory and a 'blog' directory and to link these prominently from the home page. That is a a best practice to make your blog and news easy to find.
