Do searchers use the Google advanced features or tabs?
Question: -
Q: To what extent do average searchers use Google's blog, video, etc. links when searching?
Answer: -
Google doesn't release documentation on its search volume or user behavior. However, on other sites where we do have data - for our own, eg3.com site, for example, we see that very few < 5% of searches use advanced search features.
In addition, as I teach these SEO classes, especially in person, I do informal polls of students about advanced features. So few use the advanced features. That said, there are quite a few people who do use Google Alerts (located at the bottom of the blog and news tabs), and having your news and blogs included in Google means that they go out via the Google alert system. So blogging and creating news mean that you get included in Google email blasts, for free.
That said, I am often reluctant to register my blog on Google as that means it will generally appear on the blog tab. Instead, I prefer to blog frequently and have Google pick me up on the main page rather than the blog tab.
Hope this helps!
