Where should I host my blog for SEO purposes?

Question: -
Q: What about using Google's free Blog service? Is that as effective as having your own hosted Blog?

Answer: -
There are many free blog services such as Blogger.com (owned by Google), and Wordpress. They will host your blog for you, and provide software that makes it easy to use.

The downside is that hosting on their service means that your blog is essentially unrelated to your website, and intertwined links are much more difficult to maintain and proliferate. The best practice (if possible) is to host your blog on your own website, and 'train' Google that your blog lives at yourcompany.com/blog and has frequent updates. In that way you get maximum benefit.

That said there are always trade offs in terms of time and effort, and a blog is better than no blog. Finally, don't forget that all the principles of 'on page' apply - you need effective SEO in the HTML tags such as unique and accurate (keyword rich) page TITLES, META DESCRIPTIONS, H1, H2, etc. Most blog software isn't very good at this, which (again) gives an edge to do-it-yourself bloggers.

Hope this helps!
