How do you calculate and use keyword density in terms of analyzing your pages for SEO purposes?

Question: -
Q: Please clarify. . density means # of keywords found/repeated, correct?

Answer: -
Yes, keyword density is a measure of the occurrences of a keyword divided by the number of times that the keyword appears on the page. So if you page has 1000 words and the keyword appears 100 times, then your keyword density is 10%. Similarly, if your TITLE tag has ten words and the keyword appears two times, you have a TITLE tag keyword density of 20%. So, remember, keyword density occurs within a tag, within a page, within a directory, and even within an entire website.

Your goal is to communicate to Google what your website is about, your keyword priorities. One of the ways to do this is raw density, but more importantly is to communicate the keyword priority by using the structural elements of page tags and website structure. In terms of page tags, the best tool to use here is SEO Centro's Meta Tag Analyzer. Put your keyword into this tool, and hit submit. Then once it gives you back the results, do a CTRL+F in Firefox, and it will highlight the keyword.

You can then look strategically at the density of your keyword to the entire page. In addition, you can see the strategic densities across tags. Finally compare your site to other sites that are 'beating you' on Google for your keywords, and compare/contrast your density overall and by structural page tag elements to see how you are doing, in a relative sense.

Hope this helps!
