Should you use the same, or different landing pages, for AdWords or other PPC Advertising online?

Question: -
Q: Also is it a good idea to use the same landing page for the different places that you are advertising, or should be different landing pages for the different places that a person is advertising ?

Answer: -
Ideally, here are the best practices for advertising landing pages:

  • Optimize them using the SEO page techniques we have learned in class - repeat the target keywords for the ad in the TITLE, place some keyword heavy text on the page, and write the page in a snappy fun way that will confirm their search, engage the searcher, and lead to a defined action.
  • Place all your landing pages in your robots.txt file to exclude any non-paid traffic, so that you are certain 100% of your traffic is coming from your paid text, and of course do not link to your landing pages from other pages on your site.
  • Create a unique page for every major ad medium - Google, Bing, Yahoo, BusinessWeek, Your Local Paper, whatever. That way, you can measure which media is working best for you. If you were to combine them, you would be uncertain. You might even have different landing page for different ads, again so that you can clearly see which ads are performing.

Finally, advertising landing pages do not have to follow all Google rules. You can have very close or duplicate content and Google will not care about this, since these get their traffic from paid efforts.

Hope this helps!

- Jason
