How do I get my blog to show up on Google for SEO purposes?

Question: -
Q: I have a question. I run a lawn service and I have a website but I want to rank high in Google in other ways other than a website. What sort of ideas would you have for me to advertise in? I have a blog but my blog is not showing up. Would you have any suggestions for me?

Answer: -
Blogs can be fantastic SEO opportunities. Ideally, you would host your blog yourself, and have your blog be one directory down from your home page, with a prominent link from your 'home page' to your blog. As in http://www.yourcompany.com/blog/. Google loves blogs with fresh content, and is pretty good at figuring out it's a blog if it lives in the blog directory.

That said, to get the blog picked up by Google on the main Google page, the usual SEO rules apply. Have a lot of good keyword-heavy content. Use Page Tags such as the TITLE tag appropriately. Get lots of links. Create new content, frequently. The best way to get picked up is by having new incoming links to your blog, as well as to issue news about your blog via the free news syndication services.

You should also think of your blog and your website as companion projects. Both should support each other. And finally you might consider submitting your blog directly to Google. Go to the BLOG tab on Google, scroll to the bottom and follow the instructions there. Here is a direct link: http://blogsearch.google.com/ping?hl=en.

Hope this helps!
