What is Urchin? How does it relate to Google Analytics?

Question: -
Q: What's better, Google Analytics or Urchin?

Answer: -
This is a complicated question. For most users, the transition has been complete to Google Analytics, and they will use Google Analytics only. For very early Google Analytics users the code was called Urchin, acquired by Google through an acquisition. Urchin still exists as a Google stand-alone for sale product, and is used by many large companies.

The primary difference is that Google Analytics is hosted on Google servers, where as Urchin is hosted on your own servers. Banks and many corporations have privacy policies that disallow them from using externally hosted products. In those cases, use Urchin. Here is a link to the official Urchin page on Google, http://www.google.com/urchin/.

For almost everyone else, Google Analytics is the best choice. You can actually run both!

Hope this helps!
