Why does Google deprecate Flash and Graphics in SEO vs. 'ugly' text sites?
Question: -
Q: I see sites that are ranked top 3 but they are such crude and basic sites and I am sure they have not done professional jobs in designing their site, is it that they just unintentionally had content that has many key words?
Answer: -
I really like this question! It gets to the heart of a very important matter: Google is aesthetically blind. It doesn't see Flash, it doesn't see images, and it makes no judgements as to the textual lay out of websites. It strongly prefers TEXT, it likes that TEXT to be KEYWORD HEAVY with the KEYWORDS embedded strategically in certain key tags like the H1, H2 family, TITLE tag, A HREF tag etc.
So what visually or textually might be a hideous website, if it has keyword heavy text and especially if it enjoys high quality incoming links, that site will beat out much more beautiful websites. Google speaks HTML and TEXT and as such is completely and utterly blind to other issues.
The best designs speak the language of Google but are also visually and aesthetically appealing to humans. Good design is both form and function, universally.
Hope this helps!
