How do you validate a Google Webmaster tools account?

Q: Is it the same process for setting up a Webmaster Central account? I tried setting up a Google webmaster tools account, and I couldn't perform any of the validation procedures.

You can of course find Google Webmaster Tools at https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/. Here is the process:
- Sign up for your free account. It's best to use one single GMAIL account for Webmaster tools, AdWords, and your Analytics account.
- Google then gives you EITHER some META code that you upload to your HOME PAGE, or a UNIQUE FILE, that you upload to the TOP LEVEL DIRECTORY of your website.
- Upload one or the other.
- Submit for validation.
If it doesn't work, it means you have failed to either insert the tag in your home page, and/or upload the file, and/or failed to upload your NEW home page. You'll have to check with your ISP / web provider or technical staff to make sure that you are correctly FTP'ng the files. If you are using a third party software like Website tonight by Godaddy, you'll have to make sure you can paste the META TAG into the proper position in the software.
