Define:seo. What is a quick definition of SEO or Search Engine Optimization?

Q: Quick question, would you say that the true goal of SEO is the process of positioning of a particular site for specific keywords to make your content and your website to be the most relevant result in the eyes of the search engines?

SEO, in my view, is simply using FREE tools to get to the top of Google's FREE listings. SEO - to me - is a client who says, Jason, I want to be No. 1 when someone inputs SEO COMPANY DENVER. How do I do that?
Do you have another layman's definition? In my classes, I try to make thing simple for the average, harried businessperson and/or marketing person. In our SEO industry, the SEO geeks have unfortunately overcomplicated the whole thing, and generally made quite a mess of it. And that is just the honest ones. The dishonest ones have polluted the whole river, and made many people hate SEO and SEO consultants. Sigh.
