What do you do about listing sites like acupuncturist listing sites and SEO?
Question
Q: I'm an acupuncturist and I notice that all the top hits are now going to acupuncturist locator sites. Any suggestions for what to do here? Do I want to try to get ahead of these guys also since they do refer to and link to my website?
Answer: -
Sites like Manta, Yelp, and even industry sites such as those apparently at work in the acupuncture community, use a lot of link tactics to show up. Yelp, for example, encourages vendors to post icons on their sites that link back to Yelp (hence creating link juice / link energy); they also have lots of NEW content such as user reviews, that Google gobbles up. Manta is a new competitor in this space, and the same tricks are at work - many inbound links from companies included on Manta, and new user generated content.
So in some industries you have to play two games. An SEO game (get to the top / get on page one) and a Yelp / Manta / Citysearch / Google+ Local / Acupuncturist site game by getting listed on those sites, and manipulating their search engines. It can be done - it's just a multilevel game.
I do feel that many consumers are trending towards Google+ Local and so that may be MORE important than industry listing sites. It always depends on the exact search and which searches are most used by consumers in your industry.
Hope this helps!
