Why do I see different Google results at home vs. at work?
Question
Q: My Google Search at the office for given keywords is different than my home computer which is a Mac. Why???
A: --unanswered--
Q: When doing a url redirect, if and when is it recommended to take down the old links?
Answer: -
This is probably due to a) personalization, or b) your location or perhaps both. First and foremost, if you are 'signed in' to your Google account while searching, you will see your name / email in the TOP RIGHT of the screen. If that is so, then Google is personalizing your results, and it will ALTER the search results it shows based on how you click. So, if at the office, you search for, and click on, your company name and related topics frequently, your company may start to appear to be No. 1 on Google, even though in reality it is NOT.
Then, if you go home, you will see DIFFERENT results based on your different search patterns.
If you LOG OUT of your Google accounts, you should see roughly the same results on Google. However, Google is localizing content more heavily than ever, so if you were to work in San Francisco, and live in Oakland, you might see very different results, especially for local searches like 'pizza' or 'divorce attorney.'
Bottom line: sign OUT of Google when doing anything related to SEO, and also clear your cookies frequently.
Hope this helps!
