Can a small company compete with big companies in terms of SEO?
Question
Q: I am just a little guy in the business. I have been here for a bit more than 2 years. Can I compete with the big guys and really expect to move up to the top 10?
Answer: -
Riches are in the niches. So to the extent that you can identify niche searches that the big guys aren't after, you can certainly compete. Also, remember there are 10 results on a Google page, and getting to No. 1 or 2 might be impossible but getting to 3 or 4 may be very doable... then it's about getting the click, and getting the engagement from a landing.
In my humble opinion, many of the big companies are actually very poor at Internet marketing, so there is no reason to believe you can't compete against them. It all depends on the industry and how 'advanced' it is in terms of its SEO. (Insurance, as we discussed in the seo class today, is VERY competitive.).
So a) identify possible niches, b) realize there are ten positions, c) think about 'getting the click' not just showing up, and d) don't fall into the trap of thinking that just because they're big, they're smart. The Internet and SEO are great levelers.
Hope this helps!
