Great question! First of all, of course, get the structural skeleton right - a good keyword heavy TITLE tag, META DESCRIPTION, H1/H2 and then an image with an ALT attribute to the image. Then right good, keyword heavy text.
So how much? I would say a minimum of 1000 characters and probably no more than 5000 characters. Longer doesn't hurt if the post remains FOCUSED on a single keyword family. But too short < 1000 characters and it risks looking not serious.
