What is the difference between your 'home page' and a 'landing page' for SEO?
Question
Q: Would it be fair to say that most web sites home pages are also functioning as a landing page? I a landing page a subdirectory of the home page?
Answer: -
This is my distinction. Your landing pages are specific keyword targeted pages - laser focused. If you look at geico.com - look at the motorcycle page, for example. The home page - in contrast - is not as laser focused (it can't be).... So YES lots of people LAND on your home page, but it isn't a true Landing page. It is a super important QUEEN bee of the website, but has to be more balanced and less focused, acting as a gateway down to the real landing pages.
That distinction is important as you want to conceptualize your home page differently than your landing pages for SEO purposes.
In addition, you'll have BLOG pages which are even narrower, product pages, and possibly press releases... These are also different than landing pages. I often think of landing pages as the ANCHOR stores in shopping mall, and the blog pages like the boutiques.
Hope this helps!
