Location targeting or geotargeting is a powerful feature in Google AdWords. Most people geotarget down to the level of cities or towns, but you can use Zip Codes to geotarget down to locations inside a big city, such as Los Angeles or New York City. This video walks you thru step by step -
Identify your Zip Code targets using a free online zip code tool such as the Interactive Zip Code map
Log into your AdWords account.
Click on NEW campaign.
This opens up the SETTINGS window. (Or, on an existing campaign, click on EDIT to get to settings).
Under LOCATIONS, select the radio button UNITED STATES.
Click on SHOW MAP
Click on TARGET A RADIUS
Enter a CITY, STATE + Zip Code (NOTE: you can NOT just enter a ZIP CODE!). You must enter a phrase such as 'Los Angeles, CA 90210' or 'Tulsa, OK 74135'
Set RADIUS to 5 miles.
Hit your ENTER KEY. A circle will appear showing the location you are geotargeting in AdWords via a Zip Code.
Click ADD (next to the little question mark, underneath your city in the text box).
REPEAT this process for any other city / Zip codes you like.
Click DONE in the Lower left.
