YouTube Video Marketing for Small Business, Random Thoughts About Video
A picture, they say, is worth a thousand words. So if a video has a thousand pictures of your small business, then a video on YouTube about your business is worth a thousand thousand words. Recently, I was lucky enough to participate in a small business video shoot for a Yelp listing for Safe Harbor CPAs, a San Francisco CPA firm.
Video is important for many reasons for a small business, local search oriented website. First, people like video. People prefer to ‘see’ what your business does rather than ‘read’ about it. We are no longer a nation of readers, but really a nation of watchers. Your customer is always right and he or she would almost always prefer a video introduction to what you do rather than a wordy intro. So video reaches out in a medium that people like and understand: pictures. Moving pictures.
Video is Emotional
Secondly, video establishes an emotional connection between you and the potential client. People get a ‘feel’ for you as a business owner or employee through video in a way that they just cannot through the written word. If you are a CPA firm (as is Safe Harbor) people want to know that you are not only experts in CPA, tax, small business accounting and the like… but also that you are nice, friendly people. Video helps to establish this emotional connection.
Video Helps the Small Business Sales Ladder
Video is a very easy step for a person to take, especially on YouTube. Click, and watch. No software to install. Nothing complicated about it. They are ‘in control’ and can turn off the video at any moment. That is way less threatening than sending an email (and inviting you to spam them back), or calling you on the phone (and engaging in a sales conversation). So video is a very simple, first step in the sales process.
Video Helps SEO
Finally, video as a marketing tool is great for SEO. Embed your target keywords in the video title, and description. YouTube is the world’s No. 2 search engine, so you can leverage YouTube as a promotion strategy just as you leverage video to enhance your website. It’s a two-for-one benefit.
