Here are some Google trends I see, and how free, free, free (not just for AdWords, but for local) fits in -

• Free AdWords Coupon Codes – Google wants you to advertise, and so like the clerk at the ice cream store, gives you a ‘free taste’ of the Google ice cream, AdWords. Now is AdWords good for you? Is ice cream good for you? Perhaps it is more of a treat, something special. Did you eat your vegetables – i.e., do your SEO, and get your stuff from Google first for free vs. paying via AdWords? That’s not Google’s problem, and free Google AdWords couponsare meant to get you ‘addicted’ to AdWords, just like free ice cream tastes are meant to get you ‘addicted’ to Ice Cream. 
• Free Google Websites – Google runs this whole program called, Get your business online, which gives out free websites in conjunction with Intuit. So Google is trying to ‘grow’ the small business market segment, by ‘giving away’ free websites… And then – guess what? – they can pitch you on AdWords!

Both free AdWords coupons and free Google websites are good things. So is Ice Cream. But we need to be skeptical about why Google gives this stuff away, ‘free.’ It’s selling us on AdWords. But AdWords, like ice cream, should be more of a dessert than a staple of your diet.
