Sitelinks on Google“How a company can get sitelinks on Google is a very common question in our online classes on Search Engine Optimization,” explained Jason McDonald, director of the JM Internet Group. “Many companies do not realize that these links occur because of proper website structure, nor do they realize that one uses Google Webmaster tools to deprecate or enhance sitelinks for a company’s listings on Google.”

How to Get Links Underneath a Listing on Google (Sitelinks)

Sitelinks are subordinate links that occur underneath a search result on Google. They also occur on branded searches. A search for “JM Internet Group” on Google, for example, will yield not only a summary of the company’s offerings on SEO, Social Media Marketing, and AdWords, but also subordinate links on training and the company’s informative SEO tools webinar. Many companies want to get these subordinate links on their Google search results, but few understand the process. First, make sure that one’s business has signed up for Webmaster tools. Second, organize one’s business’s website using tactics that are friendly to Google. What is meant here, is to make sure that on one’s business’s homepage, for example, one’s business has keyword heavy one’s business-click links to defined landing pages. Secondly, make sure in one’s business’s site navigation, that one’s business has prominent links to one’s business’s top keywords, and landing pages. Third, make sure one’s business has both an HTML site map and an XML site map, and one’s business has submitted the latter to Google Webmaster tools. What one’s business is trying to do here is make it super easy for Google to figure out what are the most important pages on one’s business’s website.

If one’s business follows those steps, over time, Google will pick up the site links, and by communicating with Google in Webmaster tools, one’s business can train Google to show the site links that one’s business actually want to show.
