How to Find My Business on Google / Google+ (!)

You’re a business owner: perhaps a hair dresser, a divorce attorney, a massage therapist, a local Sushi restaurant or any of the myriad of local businesses that depend on Google and Bing searches, as well as local reviews, to bring in new customers. You realize the incredible importance of being listed on Google, and you want to claim (or at least find) your business on the Google+ local system.

How do you find your business on Google+ Local, a.k.a. Google My Business or Google Maps? In this how to post, I am going to explain how to find your business. Guess what? It’s NOT EASY.  Google has done a terrible, horrible, no good, rotten job at managing its Google local product, and to make matters worse, it is constantly changing the interface. The latest “update” has made it all but impossible to go from a Google search to your local listing. Here are the steps to find your business on Google.

Method #1: Use Google search

  1. Go to https://www.google.com/ and enter your business name (or very defined keywords for which your business ranks on Google search).  (Note: this ONLY works if your business has at least ONE review on the Google+ local system!).
  2. Click on the “reviews” link which shows on the far right of the screen.
  3. Click on the picture of one of your reviewers to get to his or her profile on Google+.
  4. Click over to their reviews tab.
  5. Click on your business name.  Copy the URL string up to the last numeric digit (this is your actual Google+ listing for your business – so keep this URL handy)!

Method #2: Use Google+ Brand Pages Search / oops – no longer works!

  1. Go to http://www..com/.  OOPS!  No longer works!
  2. Enter your business name. Find your business on the list provided.
  3. Click over to your business. Copy the URL string up to the last numeric digit (this is your actual Google+ listing for your business – so keep this URL handy)!

Method #3: Use Google Site Search

  1. Go to https://www.google.com/.
  2. Enter a search in this format: site:plus.google.com your business name as in site:plus.google.com “JM Internet Group”. Find your business on the list provided.
  3. Click over to your business. Copy the URL string up to the last numeric digit (this is your actual Google+ listing for your business – so keep this URL handy)!
